Guidelines issued by the office of the Inspector General of Police – Permission to commute during curfew imposed for quarantine purposes 

  1.  We write to our communique issued on 29th May 2020 regarding the notice issued by the President’s Media Division on curfew imposed on Sunday 31st May, Thursday 4th and Friday 5th June 2020.
  2. We have been informed that the Inspector General of Police has issued instructions - on 29th May 2020 - to allow employees serving in public and private sector establishments as well as factories that have been granted permission by the relevant authorities to operate on the above mentioned curfew days to commute to and from their places of work utilizing the letters of authority and Identity Cards issued by their respective employers.  Such persons will also be allowed to cross over from one district to another.
  3. Those transporting essential goods and medicines etc. will also be allowed to commute to and from their respective destinations as well as to cross Districts.  
  4. In addition, establishments and persons supplying goods and services who presently hold curfew passes valid till 31st May 2020, will be allowed to use such passes to commute to and from their destinations during the curfew.
  5. Employers are nonetheless encouraged to contact the Police Headquarters (Tel. 2421780/2421111) or the local Police in the relevant areas in order to ascertain as to whether or not your establishment will be allowed to operate and deploy personnel for work during the island-wide curfew imposed.
  6. In any event, employers are advised to make their own arrangement with regard to transportation of workers even if establishments have been permitted to operate during curfew days as it is likely that public transport services will be severely curtailed during these days.
  7. Establishments which are not able to operate on curfew days are encouraged to deploy personnel to work from home wherever possible.
